Professional Experience:

Jora Gonda secured admission to KREC/NITK Surathkal and obtained B.E. degree in Electrical Engineering in June 1986, securing 7th rank in the University. Later he obtained his M.E. degree in Electrical Engineering from IISc. Bangalore in the year 1993 and Ph.D. degree from the department of E&C, NITK Surathkal in the year 2017.

He joined NITK Surathkal in the year 1987 and currently holds a position of Associate Professor in the Department. Jora took up Teaching -- the Profession, by Choice. As a teacher, he believes in quality education and invests lot of energy and time to make the class interesting, comprehensive, and productive. Every course and every occasion of offering, he considers it as an opportunity to learn better and hence teach effectively and expand further.

He has been focussing on meeting the needs of the students of the department in the fast-changing world and that motivated him to author and offer several courses – in the area of Power Electronics and Drives, Power System Operation and Control, Power Quality, Digital Signal Processing, Optimization, Control Systems, Machine Learning -- in addition to courses generally offered in the EE Curriculum. He has thus taught as many as 32 courses and 13 laboratory titles. This is the most important contribution. He has guided as many as 95 UG projects, 44 PG projects, one M. Tech(R) thesis. He is currently guiding three Ph.D. Scholars and has some journal and conference publications to his credit.

He has developed and modernised several laboratories like -- Power Electronics and Drives, Electrical Machines, Electrical Measurements, Electronics Measurements, and Special Machines and High Performance Drives with the responsibility of obtaining grants and in implementation. He has served as the Head – Department of E&E, member -- Board of Governors NITK Surathkal, and Liaison Officer -- SC/ST-Cell of the Institute as the first assignee. He has also served as the Chairman of BoE for Post Graduate and Under Graduate programmes in Electrical and Electronics Engineering discipline under Mangalore University and Member Board of Studies of NIE Mysore. He considers a good procedure is a great facility, and has contributed immensely by establishing or proposing such valuable procedures, whenever he got an opportunity.

He has delivered several lectures at the Summer and Winter Schools at KREC/NITK Surathkal and invited lectures outside the institute. He has attended several Faculty Development Programmes and also has conducted a week long Winter School. He has participated in National and International conferences across the country and abroad. He has been a reviewer of research thesis, books, and research publications. He is a Senior Member of IEEE(USA), Life Member of Institution of Engineers (India), Indian Society for Technical Education, and Systems Society of India. He has been interacting with several industries in the form of -- collaboration for Students’ Projects, Training, and Testing & Consultancy Activities.

Achievements
  • 7th Rank to the Mangalore University in B.E. from KREC (NITK) Surathkal from Electrical Engineering.
  • First Graduate, an Engineer, with a University Rank from my community. This acted as a stimulus for schooling of my community (Gonda) people and for our prosperity and getting along the mainstream.
  • Topper in 7th Public examination in my Taluka level, a milestone, that paved the way for my career, thereafter. My school Master Sh. M. B. Naik, with his friend Sh. A. M. Prabhu, a shopkeeper in my village, supported and guided me thenceforth.
