Welcome to Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering

The Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering was established right from the inception of the institute i.e., on August 6, 1960, with the under-graduate programme. The post-graduate programme in Power and Energy Systems was started in the year 1992. Formal research activities leading to a doctoral degree (PhD) were introduced in the year 2003. The department has well-equipped state-of-the-art laboratories to augment the coursework and enhance the research potentials. The department has faculty who are not only dedicated in teaching learning process, but also are actively engaged in the research and development activities with externally sponsored projects from various funding agencies like DST, SERB, MNRE, CPRI, DELL, CDAC, Infineon, Texas Instruments, Schneider Electric, L&T, Robert Bosch, MeitY, to name a few. They have good number of publications in many international journals & conferences. The department also undertakes many consultancy projects from industry and other organisations. Recognitions like Young Faculty Research Fellowship and award for Research Publications from Government agencies have been received by the faculty.

There are several full-time Ph. D. scholars pursuing research in the department, in addition to the part-time registrants. Many of our Ph.D. graduates have taken up faculty positions in other NITs and IITs. Many final year students take up internships at foreign institutes such as University of Pennsylvania, University of Illinois Urbana, EPFL Switzerland, University of Windsor, under Mitacs Global Link Research Internship, etc. Some of them even carry out their Major Projects in reputed Indian Institutes like TIFR, IIT and IIMs etc. Multinational Core-companies as well as IT companies have recruited students from the department. Thus, many of our students are enjoying high profile jobs and a large number of students have been obtaining admissions into various reputed institutions in USA, Australia, Canada, Singapore, and the European Union for higher studies. Presence of our alumni at various Industries and reputed Universities across the globe has helped our graduates to plan their post graduate and doctoral studies.

HOD’s Message

The global climate change and depleting natural resources are demanding invention of new technologies which are energy conscious. The confidence in managing new knowledge society requires continuous learning through novel approaches supported with research and development works in the areas of power and energy. Thus the department vision and mission reflects this and my department joins me in meeting this mission by producing knowledgeable and committed technologists to serve our country and humanity as a whole. The hard work and sincerity are strong pillars of success. Through our practices we strive to impress our students to inculcate these values and support the mission of NITK. I welcome wholeheartedly our alumni to join hands in supporting our endeavors by all means of interaction.  Our doors are always open to Universities, research organizations, industries and utility companies to collaborate with us in building valuable knowledge society foreseeing bright future.
