Content: 

Introduction, Review of test sources and measurement associated with insulation studies. (Depending on the earlier background a definite time is allocated towards introduction and review).

Insulation types:  Solids, Liquids, Gases and Vacuum,  Properties and characteristics. Dielectric strength and permittivity.  Methods of measurements.  Theories of breakdown.  Testing of transformer oil,  Schering bridges for tan-delta measurement, Insulation resistance and other properties. Measurement of insulation resistance of solids: Bulk and surface. PD measurements. Testing of cables IR, PI, step test, tan delta, PD. Treeing tracking.  Radio interference measurements,  RI and RIV. Testing of insulators, Power transformers, Impulse testing, Test results. Motor and generator testing and health of insulation. Accelerated ageing tests and life estimation, Models. Testing of surge diverters, bushings, insulators. Testing of rubber mats. Testing of Gas Insulated Substations.  There will be few typical experiments based on the course content.
